"With all the authenticity of the Old West, the fast-paced The Huntress is filled with both memorable characters and mounting suspense that will grip your attention tighter than a determined avenger's finger on the trigger." Parris Afton Bonds
The bray of the hounds got louder.
“They’re close, Josie,” Cash told her.
The bear came around a boulder charging toward them. Every few yards it turned to fight off the hounds tearing at its back legs.
“God, Cash. That thing is coming right at me.”
“Stand, Josie. Take the shot. He’s coming, Shoot!”
With the rifle’s sights steady on the bear’s head, she pulled the trigger. “THUD.” The rifle misfired. The crazed animal dropped onto all four feet—butted her off the trail and swept a claw across her thigh.
Cash rushed the bear and sunk his Bowie knife into its heart.
“Damn it hurts, Cash.”
He grabbed her and turned her face close to his. “Where you bleeding, Josie? Where’d he git’ you?” he asked, kneeling at her side.
“My leg . . . dad. He got me deep.”

When her second tour in Iraq ends in tragedy, Army veteran Sara Randolph returns home to Arkansas a wounded woman. While her physical scars have begun to fade, the emotional ones are as fresh and raw as ever. Because for Sara, the battle still hasn't ended. She is haunted by the shame of bad choices and naivety, by the memory of her dead squad mates, and by the guilt for having caused the ambush that got them all killed.
Diagnosed with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, home is where she hopes to heal, but even her father, a Vietnam War vet, can't find the right words to help her. In an effort to push through the trauma and find a new normal, Sara returns to the one place that feels right-the White River, where she grew up fishing. It's here that she finds peace, as well as Arkansas Conservation Officer Luke Matthews, who could be the key to opening her heart. It's also where she finds an abandoned young runaway who seems to understand her struggles better than anyone.
As Sara holds on to her sanity with all her strength, she's faced with more adversity-bullies who don't appreciate a woman on a man's river and the small-town Arkansas version of a drug kingpin who thinks her military training might benefit his criminal operation. They all pale in comparison to the most vicious enemy of all, though-herself. Between the flashbacks, the nightmares, and her own horrific self doubt, every step forward comes with two steps back.
Can she come to terms with the past and forgive herself? Or will the memory of her dead comrades drive her to the one place she can never return from?
Available in paperback, Kindle, and Kindle Unlimited.

The Ozark woods and streams did more than call to Sara Randolph, they tugged at her very heart to come and protect the diverse wildlife. She studied hard to wear the badge and hold the position to watch over this wildlife and the folks sharing these Ozark lands. Sara’s struggle to overcome the physical and psychological wounds Iraq forced upon her, seemed now to be a lifelong battle. Could even more hell be just around life’s corners? She felt certain Agent Luke Matthews, the man she loved, would assist and shield her on this new journey as an Arkansas Wildlife Agent.
Kudos for Scrimshaw Foxes:
What a great ending! I love your work and your characters. This entire book has been an honest story full of real heroes and real problems that I'm sure any reader would appreciate. Sara is such a well-rounded protagonist full of lifelike imperfections and courageous spirit--reading about her, sometimes I have to remind myself it's a book and not something happening right in front of me.
